    Hey there.

Depict are running a short film comp asking for short films that are 90 seconds long.

    Read about it Here

They have to be in by the 5 of september.

We didnt really have an idea for it until last night. About 2am we came up with "Burnt Toast"... It's not the GREATEST bit of scriptwriting ever. But I like it. Should be fun to shoot.

We just got someone to be in it and plan to shoot it tomorow and thursday. Just have to pick up a few props this afternoon. (thank you Wickedkit).

Anyway for some might be intrested in seeing the script and then later on seeing the finished film and seeing how it turned out.

So hre it is. First draft of Burnt Toast. I'm sure things will change a little when shooting but this is what we have so far.

    <BLOCKQUOTE><font size=2 face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">code:</font><table border="0" width="90%" bgcolor="#333333" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="0"><tr><td width="100%"><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" bgcolor="#FF9900"><tr><td width="100%" bgcolor="#DDDDDD"><pre>INT. KITCHEN - DAY

CLOSE ON: TOASTER as two burnt pieces of toast pop up into
    frame.

STEPHEN (20's), enters the kitchen, sees the burnt toast,
sighs. He takes the burnt bread and drops it into a bin.

He takes two more pieces of bread and pushes them into the
toaster. He turns it onto it's lowest setting...

... and, satisfied, goes over to the kettle and flicks it on,
when -- behind him the toast suddenly pops up.

Stephen returns to the toaster... to find the bread is black
    and charred again.

Getting frustrated, he dumps the burnt toast and takes two
more pieces of fresh bread. Puts them into the toaster...

    CUT TO:

CLOSE ON: TOASTER as two more pieces of burnt toast pop up
    into frame.

Stephen, now looking really pissed, takes the toast out off
the toaster and walks over to the bin. He drops them in --

-- and we see there are now at least twenty pieces of burnt
    toast in the bin.

Stephen looks over the toaster, the little unit is starting
to annoy him. Then he has an idea: he pulls open a kitchen
    draw to finds a screwdriver...

    CUT TO:

    INT. DINNING ROOM

Stephen has dismantled the toaster -- the table is covered
with pieces of wiring, plastic and metal parts.

He holds one small component up to the light.

    TIME CUT:

Stephen has put the toaster back together again. He screws in
the final screw. He looks the toaster over. Smiles.

    INT. KITCHEN

He plugs in the toaster. Takes the final two pieces of bread
from the loaf and puts them in. He takes a deep breath and
    pushes down the lever.

He watches intently. His eyes never leave the toaster.

CLOSE ON: WALL CLOCK as the seconds tick by.

Back on Stephen and his eyes still haven't left the toaster.

CLOSE ON: TOASTER as two perfect pieces of golden brown toast
    pop up.

    Stephen grins.

He reaches down to take the toast when BOOM!

A brilliant flash of blinding white light and the sound of
    some kind of electrical explosion.

    FADE TO BLACK:

A pair of feet walk into the kitchen and step over a pair of
    legs.

We slowly reveal the legs belong to Stephen. He lies on his
back on the kitchen floor. His face it black. His hair stands
on end. His eyes frozen wide open.

The feet belong to his house mate CHRISTOPHER (20's). He
    looks down at Stephen.

    CHRISTOPHER
    What you doing down there?

Christopher takes a look around the kitchen. Sees two pieces
of golden brown toast sitting in the work top. He grabs them
    and takes a bite.

    CHRISTOPHER
Well I'm off to work... See you
    later.

He steps over Stephen and leaves the room

Stephen lies on the floor motionless. We push in on his
    blackened face.

    His eyes say it all.</pre></td></tr></table></td></tr></table></BLOCKQUOTE>

that reads great, might be a squeeze getting it into 90 secs, but I guess you'll find out.
I like the way you watch the seconds tick past, I think thats a good confident moment, for a competition that is time dependant.

My bitch is that these ultra short scripts always try to make a joke....

Why not try to do something a bit more dark or serious??

Leave people wanting more or caring about what they just saw. You are off to a good start and if it is the script you go with then feel good in knowing that is does a decent job at making a joke.

    Always ask--Why should I care??

Personally I thought the guy was an idiot. If I am burning that much toast why would I keep trying?? It is one thing to give it a go a second time but 10 times(20 slices). That is when things are going overboard.

    Good Luck

    Hey there.

Well we shot the short today. Got pretty much everything... We do need to rerecord a whole bunch of sounds though.

Anyway. We've started editing. It's running around 40 seconds too long at the moment... But there is some stuff we can cut back.

So... If anyone is intrested here are a few screengrabs right off the timeline. Nothing has been colour corrected yet.
